Grave Mercy - Robin LaFevers, R.L. LaFevers Disclaimer:For simplicity's sake, I'm going to refer to this book as a whole, but I read only about 20% of it. In fact, as you can see, I've put it in my DNF shelf.I know I'm swimming upstream here, but I didn't like this book. At all.The pace of the plot is all wrong. Sometimes it drags so slowly that you can almost hear it creak. And sometimes it skips months or years and suddently the heroine has deadly ninja skills and has developed relationships with other characters you know nothing about. The whole affair felt to me like a Frankestein hastily put together, with big, ugly seams connecting different pieces. The heroine is not consistent. For all her life she has suffered meekly, and her sudden enthusiasm for violence is just not believable. The convent, the nuns and the whole system of convent-as-espionage-group never ring true, either. From the nun who was more suitable to a brothel rather than a convent, to the oh-I'm-so-imposing lame headmistress.I didn't finish the book; the part that I could force myself to read (18%) was worth a 1 star rating.
